Day 95 – 99 | Karangaheke Gorge, Mt Maunganui & McLaren Falls

A busy few days again, but now with sightseeing. From Coromandel, where we were on Sunday, we drove to Karangaheke Gorge. An absolutely stunning place where there used to be railways through the mountains and is now a lovely hiking spot.

We started the day in Coromandel with a lovely breakfast, where I took a picture of my food like a true hipster

The Gorge was absolutely stunning and we had a lucky day with the beautiful weather. The Gorge exists of several walkways with old railways, but also of tunnels where the train used to go.

After we made it back to the carpark, we drove to Mt Maunganui where we had booked a hostel. When we arrived the sea was beautiful.

The day after (Tuesday) we obviously had to climb it. Again stunning views.

We took a different way down than I did last time and it was very pretty.

We came across this tiny bird. It was so cute, calm and courageous. It didn’t scare away from us.

Then, on our way back (after a lovely icecream) we stopped by McLaren Falls.

Our route. We’ve seen loads in 4 days!

On Tuesday we moved into a new, very pretty, house which Kelly bought and started work on Wednesday. The rest of the week I did lab-stuffs and enjoyed being back to research. This evening Paul, Bridgette & Anna are coming to Taupo. Very excited to see them again!
